Ayesha Curry lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, Golden State Warriors’ basketball superstar Stephen Curry and their two daughters, Riley and Ryan. The 29-year-old is pregnant with baby number three and has had bad morning sickness.
“This pregnancy has been tougher than my past two, but I make sure to have breakfast every morning,” she says. “As a busy mom trying to get our kids fed and ready for school, we forget to eat ourselves.”
Curry, who has her own Food Network show, “Ayesha’s Home Kitchen” calls breakfast “so important.” But it doesn’t have to be complicated.
“It can be simple as making a super green smoothie or overnight oats with your favorite toppings you can prepare the night before,” she says. “Keep it quick and simple.”
Mealtime is family time
Breakfast is the Curry family’s favorite meal of the day.
Weekdays are tough for big family meals since Curry and her daughters are busy, and her husband is on the road.
“I love when we get to eat breakfast as a family which happens over the weekend,” she says. “It’s a great time to catch up, eat together and be our goofy selves.”
The whole Curry family loves “any recipe that includes bacon, bacon and more bacon,” she says, noting they also enjoy the ham and cheese waffles recipe from her book.
Family affair
The entrepreneur, who has her own BBQ restaurant, International Smoke in San Francisco, considers herself lucky that her daughters aren’t picky eaters.
“They like to try and eat everything,” she says. “If there is something they don’t like, I blend foods so it’s a secret.”
She welcomes her kids in the kitchen and encourages other parents to do the same.
“Make eating fun by using lots of colors and encouraging your little one to help you in the kitchen,” says Curry, suggesting kids can put smoothie ingredients into the blender, top pancakes with toppings like smashed bananas, chocolate and blueberry or cut foods into their favorite shape with a cookie cutter.
“My girls will try anything they helped make,” she says. “Your kids will too.”
